Before Your Tattoo
Getting a tattoo is a super exciting experience, and I want to make sure you're prepared for your appointment, so it can go as smoothly as possible. Whilst I highly recommend the below list of pre-tattoo care, ultimately it is solely up to you to decide how to prepare for your appointment :)
- A week prior to your appointment I recommend exfoliating, shaving and moisturising the area that will be tattooed. The ink will best sink into the skin that is hydrated and moisturised.
- It is up to you whether you want to shave the area being tattooed the day of your appointment, but I will do this for you regardless.
- Wear comfy, appropriate clothing for your appointment. Clothes that are easily accessible to the area being tattooed. Bear in mind INK STAINS, therefore I recommend wearing dark-coloured clothes.
- Don’t wear fake tan to your appointment, this will be wiped off with alcohol wipes.
- On the day of your appointment ensure you have eaten and stay hydrated. For longer appointments, a break is necessary, therefore I suggest bringing a bite to eat/snacks °❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:·
Healing Process
- After the second skin is applied - Please wait 3 days before peeling slowly from each corner. This is recommended doing under flowing luke-warm water. When removed, clean with sensitive soap. I recommend dove sensitive.
- Apply with aftercare. I recommend savlon or sorbeline. It is important to remember to not put too much on. Apply once or twice every day. Not too much that it will be suffocating but not too little that it is dry... A healthy in-between! Apply up 3 weeks.
- Do not shave the area for at least 2 weeks, or longer.
- Please stay out of salt water for at least 2 weeks and chlorine water for 4 weeks.
- Do not sweat (exercise etc) for at least 3 days.
- Try to keep your tattoo out of the sun as much as possible. It is inevitable it will fade with sun exposure, therefore I insist you apply sunscreen over the healed tattoo.
- When you get to the itchy stage (typically after 5 days) DO NOT SCRATCH! It can make for dropped-out lines if you do so.
- It's on your body for the rest of your life so please take extra good care of them in the initial healing stage. Your tattoo is not completely healed until upwards of 3 months.
- I offer a free touch-up for my tattoos within 6 months so please feel comfortable enough to ask for my opinion if you feel it's needed!
- Please do not hesitate to message me (or Tatt Brat) about any questions you may have about the healing process or any other concerns!
Happy healing xx
Reactions
If you find blood or clear fluid (plasma) forming underneath the second skin, this is completely normal. If you find swelling, itchiness, or redness occurring on the skin around the film, you may be having an allergic reaction or adhesive sensitivity. Please get in touch if this happens, then immediately remove the bandage and clean the area with a mild soap. If any stubborn adhesive residue is left on the skin, gently loosen the adhesive with coconut, olive, or baby oil (it will also come off on its own after a couple of days). If you ignore the aftercare rules you may find yourself with an infection, please contact me immediately and seek further medical advice. I am not a trained medic, so I can only give suggestions.
